Vorta-kun & Tiis-chan
Tokushima Vortis was one of just a handful of J.League clubs that had no mascot until very recently. For almost ten years after earning a spot in the J.League, Vortis had no official mascot. This may have been partly because the club is named after a whirlpool, and it is hard to design a whirlpool-shaped mascot. Some suggested that the club should adopt an "Awa Dancer" as their mascot (the "Awa Odori" festival is famous nationwide for the dancing that takes place during the summer festival). But in 2014, with the club knocking on the door of promotion to the J1, Vortis finally decided to introduce two mascot characters -- raccoon dogs named Vorta and Tiis. If anyone supposed that Vortis' earlier lack of a mascot reflected some desire to seem "cool" or "hip", the design of these two certainly laid that theory to rest. Tiis and Vorta are almost too cute for words.
