Zelvy-kun

Machida Zelvia's mascot is modelled on the "Kawasemi" - a blue-headed kingfisher which is commonly found along rocky streams and rivers like the Tamagawa, which flows through Machida City. Unlike many of the characters selected as team mascots for the J.League's major teams, Zelvy was chosen in a very "democratic" grassroots process. The team accepted hundreds of proposals from fans, as well as graphic designers in the Machida area, and then posted four of the best proposals on its website, asking fans to vote for their favourite. At the end of the 2008 season, the votes were tallied and Zelvy became Machida's new mascot.
