J1 Preview – Sat. Sept.15th – 18:30 Omiya Ardija vs Sagan Tosu at Kumagaya

Omiya Ardija – DF Kataoka is out for a month
Sagan Tosu – DF Kitani still out.

6 wins for Ardija, 1 for Tosu and 2 draws, all in J2 since 2003 except for this season’s 1-1 draw in Tosu.

Omiya Ardija find themselves in a must-win game today, and in the next ten, too! They managed to hold Urawa Reds in the Saitama Derby last week, even going down to ten men early on, but anything can happen in Derby matches… can they beat the mean defence of Sagan Tosu, especially as Sagan will be looking to get back on the winning track after losing out in a shock to Kamatamare Sanuki – at home – last week in the Emperor’s Cup.

Ardija are now showing a much worse goal difference than Albirex and Gamba, which may hurt them on the final day – they need to score more goals, concede less goals and, of course, rack up some points, fast, if they are to have any chance of continuing their run in the top division. I can not see this happening, certainly not against one of the meanest defences in the J.League and a team who were stung last week and will be looking to make amends.

Neither team has suspension or major injury problems, but Omiya are getting enough from their new players, while the great hope for this season, Cho, is struggling with consistency, also. Carlinhos seems to have settled in and Higashi is back from London 2012 firing on all cylinders – he scored the equaliser last week. But two players do not a team make!

J1 Preview Aug.25th – 19:00 Vissel Kobe vs Sagan Tosu at Home's

Vissel Kobe – DF Inoha, MF Nozawa, FW Okubo have all been on the injury list this week
Sagan Tosu – DF Kitani out for at least another month.

Head to Head – this year’s 3-0 home win for Sagan is the only meeting between these two teams in J1 so far. Four games in J2 in 2008 saw 3 Vissel wins and a draw.

A key point could be the injury list for Vissel Kobe – Inoha, Nozawa and Okubo have all proved to be key players this season as Vissel put a good run together. Having loaned out possible replacement Komoto to Omiya, Vissel will have to use Takagi at CB if Inoha is unfit – the player has often crumbled under pressure. Sagan are fast and efficient on the counter-attack and this position could prove crucial to the game’s outcome. As of the day before the game nothing was confirmed on any of the players from the Vissel camp.
Vissel will have Ogawa available again after suspension and Morioka is a capable replacement for either Okubo or Nozawa if needed. A win for Kobe would really boost the confidence and make them think they have a chance for a top three finish – it will be in their own hands.
Sagan Tosu continue to surprise and confound the critics. They lost at home to a rebounding Shimizu S-Pulse last week, but have been having a good run and still remain in contention for a top 3 place! How long before that bubble bursts? Or are they the real deal? MF Mizunuma is a key man and if Vissel can watch him safely, that may be the difference. EXPECT a HARD WIN for VISSEL KOBE!

J1 Preview Aug.18th – 19:00 Sagan Tosu vs Shimizu S-Pulse at Best Amenity

Sagan Tosu – MF Okamoto is suspended. DF Kitani out for at least another month.
Shimizu S-Pulse – FW Franca has moved on loan to Verdy allowing the signing of FW Kim Hyun-Sung on loan. DF/MF Muramatsu is back from the Olympics.

Only one previous meeting between these two teams, the 1-1 draw earlier this season.

Shimizu S-Pulse are BACK! After beating top team Sanfrecce two games back, they took out Nagoya in the Nabisco Cup in a 4-3 thriller that saw them go thought on away goals on a last gasp Takagi winner. Then they proceeded to beat Nagoya in the league, also, last weekend and upped their goals total with Brosque, Omae and Takagi all getting in among the goals again – have S-Pulse turned the corner? Certainly, if the diminutive front pair of Omae and Takagi can continue their revival, with the likes of Alex Brosque in support S-Pulse will continue their rise up J1.

Jymmy Franca has been released to Tokyo Verdy on loan, freeing up a foreigner spot and S-Pulse have not delayed, bringing in FW Kim Hyun-Sung on loan until the end of the season. He’s a big man to push the likes of Takahara to bigger things or to supplement the likes of Omae and Takagi.

Sagan Tosu have quietly gone about their business of consolidating their place in j1 in their first ever season in the top flight and currently sit in 6th spot, just two wins off the top. A loss today would bring S-Pulse level with them, such is the close nature of the J1 table this season as we go into the home stretch, but Tosu have an excellent home record and despite the critics predicting the bubble will burst sooner rather than later, they are still winning points and fans with their play.

They have won three of their last four – beating Kashima, Kawasaki and Tokyo – all teams in close proximity, thereby keeping themsleves above their opponents. It’s the same with this game – a win they pull away from S-Pulse, a loss, and they’re level.
While Sagan have an enviable home record I feel that the timely changes and the adrenalin of recent results will mean that we can EXPECT a WIN for SHIMIZU S-PULSE.
