J.League J1 preview Matchday 32 – 17:00 Consadole Sapporo vs Sagan Tosu at Sapporo Dome

Consadole Sapporo – DF Kushibiki is suspended. DFs Kim and North are still fitness concerns as is FW Uehara.
Sagan Tosu – MF Kim is suspended. DF Yeo is injured.

13 wins for Tosu, 10 for Consadole and 5 draws in ten seasons between these two teams. All in J2 except for Sagan’s home win this season in J1.

Match Preview
What can we say about Consadole Sapporo – possibly the worst team that J1 has seen in it’s two decades of history? 22 goals scored all season, 79 conceded, a goal difference of -57. Can anyone see them winning this game? Famous last words, perhaps, but Sagan Tosu have impressed in their maiden season in J1 and have nothing to lose, no pressure on and most of us watching will expect them to walk this match with ease. That, of course is a dangerous attitude! After being confirmed as relegated Sapporo managed to beat Urawa Reds, away, and it looked as if they were suddenly relaxed, knowing their fate was decided. But that was it, they are back on the losing road now!

Sagan Tosu have a great defence, a strong home record and their supporters are really enjoying their first ever season in J1. There were rumours at the start of the season that their ace striker Toyoda would move to a “bigger” club and they must be grateful he didn’t, having scored 14 goals for his team so far this season. They will be hard-pressed to keep him if bigger clubs come calling, though, after he has proved he CAN do it in J1. If they can keep him, and continue their fine performances, confidence will grow even more and their players will surely believe that they do not need to move to gain success. The final three games are important for Sagan to show they are not in a fluke position. 2 or even 3 wins will top their season perfectly and they will not allow Sapporo to spoil this day. EXPECT a WIN for SAGAN TOSU!

J1 Preview Nov.7th 19.00 – Shimizu S-Pulse vs Albirex Niigata at Outsourcing

Shimizu S-Pulse – FW Kim is suspended. No reported injuries but FW Omae and DF Jong-a-Pin not 100%.
Albirex Niigata – DF Kawaguchi will miss the game on Japan U-19 duty. MF Uchida is out long term.

Head to Head – 9 wins for Albirex, 8 for S-Pulse and 5 draws over 22 matches since 2004.

Match Preview – It seems many games in these final weeks will be must-win for one team or the other, none more so that Albirex Niigata in this battle of the orange! A loss for Niigata will see them fall further back in the race for safety, but they will find it hard against a team smarting from a Nabisco Cup Final defeat! Albirex are also without their ace keeper Higashiguchi, who has been the lynchpin of an excellent defensive record this season (if only they could score goals, too!).

As noted, Shimizu S-Pulse will want to bounce back from their cup final defeat and home advantage will only help them regain confidence. The team was an average age of just 23 in the Nabsico Cup Final, but the experience will only help them grow. They know that an ACL place is up for grabs and they are on form. They may even feel, if results go their way, a 2nd place or even the Champinship is still within reach. They won’t let that chance go. The fitness of Calvin Jong-a-Pin may be an issue, but they have the players to get around that if he doesn’t make it. They are starting games with many youngsters, but the experience they are gaining can only be good (average age of starting XI in the Nabisco Cup FInal was exactly 23!). EXPECT a WIN for SHIMIZU S-PULSE!

J1 Preview – Sat. Sept.15th – 19:00 Kashiwa Reysol vs Consadole Sapporo at Kashiwa

Kashiwa Reysol – apart from three goalkeepers on the injury list, nothing else to report.
Consadole Sapporo – FW Tele is out, MF Ramon is doubtful. DF Kim is reported injured, adding to a long injury list.

6 wins for Reysol, 3 for Consadole and 2 draws – Sapporo’s last win was in 2008

Consadole Sapporo are all but mathematically down and the injuries keep mounting up, even new players they brought in in – Tele and Ramon – are suffering the jinx! Up against a high-scoring Kashiwa Reysol, at full strength the Consadole defence – having already conceded 61 goals in their 24 games – will find it hard to keep a clean sheet, and, once they go behind, they’ll lave even more space at the back for Kashiwa to exploit. The likes of Jorge Wagner and Leandro Domingues excel at finding space for their forwards to exploit and Sawa, Kudo and Tanaka all take chances regularly.

Hopefully, for Reysol fans, the acquisition of Neto Baiano will not upset the rhythm up front and / or cause a rift in the team who were scoring regularly already, without bringing in a player half way through the season?

There can be no other result today that A WIN for KASHIWA REYSOL!

J1 Preview Aug.25th – 18:30 Kashima Antlers vs Albirex Niigata at Kashima

Kashima Antlers – FWs Osako and Dutra and DF/MF Nishi are all suspended. DF/MF Koji Nakata will be out for at least another month.
Albirex Niigata – MFs Kim, Nakamura and Ichida, and FW Suzuki are all long-term injuries.

Head to Head – surprisingly even over the years, since 2004, 7 wins for Antlers, 6 for Albirex and 7 draws.

Kashima have won one of the last three – with defeats to Sagan Tosu and Urawa Reds sandwiching a win over Jubilo Iwata. After a terrible start Kashima put some points on the board but still look like a team in disarray at times and are not yet clear of relegation this season. If they can consolidate their position in J1 the powers-that-be need to decide if they keep faith with Jorginho as coach, then they can start the rebuilding process. FW Koroki will have a lot on his shoulders with the suspensions of Osako and Dutra which could be a bonus for Albirex Niigata, who are in deep trouble.
The return of CB Suzuki from the Olympics didn’t make much difference last week in a defeat to top team Sanfrecce Hiroshima, and they are the lowest scoring team in J1, with even less goals than bottom club Consadole! FWs Hirai, Yano et al MUST take the chances that they are given, as they are few and far between.

Even with the suspensions I can not see Albirex getting anything out of this. Expect a WIN for KASHIMA ANTLERS!

Consadole Sapporo v. Cerezo Osaka – Even Inconsistent Cerezo won’t Fail against Bottom Club!

Cerezo Osaka – DF Takahashi out for at least two more weeks.

Cerezo Osaka (P8 W4 D1 L3 GD +3) showed their good side for most of the game last week going 3-0 up against Jubilo Iwata before it ended 3-2. They are the most inconsistent team ever, it seems but surely they can’t fail against a Consadole Sapporo (P8 W0 D1 L7 GD -9) who have lost seven straight games since their opening day draw.

The youngsters of Cerezo Osaka, led by Kiyotake and Kim still need guidance – hence the inconsistency and, if both of those players move to Europe in the summer transfer window, as has been posited by various parts of the press, Cerezo wil have to rebuild again – somethign they are getting used to after losing Kagawa, Inui and Ienaga in recent times. But that’s the future, for today EXPECT a WIN for CEREZO OSAKA!

Consadole have four wins to Cerezo’s three wins in seven J2 meetings. There have been no draws between these two teams and this will be their first ever meeting in J1.

When Kim Bo Kyung blasted the 3rd Cerezo goal home in the 83rd minute, Cerezo must have thought they had this game in the bag! Kiyotake had opened the scoring, and Ogihara scored the second goal just after the break and Cerezo were cruising…. so was the Titanic! Well, it wasn’t a complete disaster in the end, but Jubilo pulled a couple of goals back in the remaining minutes, through Hiroki Yamada with a splendid effort in the 87th before Cho added another in added time, but the comeback proved too late and the wildly inconsistent Cerezo showed both sides today, but came out of it with the three points! It’s never a dull moment being a Cerezo fan.
