Tosu Stadium
aka "Best Amenity Stadium"
Tosu City, Saga Prefecture
Tosu Stadium is a truly beautiful football venue, and when the corporate naming rights to the stadium were sold, in 2012, the stadium managed to attract a truly appropriate sponsor. Although the amenities may not literally be the "best" in Japan, this relatively new, football-only facility has not been overlooked by those who know a good stadium when they see it. Sweden were quick to snap up the rights to make their home base for the 2002 World Cup at Tosu Stadium, and did so only by moving fast, since Russia and Italy were reportedly interested in using the stadium as well. One year earlier, the stadium became the official home of Sagan Tosu, a relatively small club but one that has punched above its weight in the J1 for several seasons.
Tosu is a bit off the beaten track, located on the far western tip of Kyushu. However, Tosu Stadium itself boasts excellent stadium access, with a large train station right outside the front gate and a major freeway intersection nearby. Those who make the trip invariably come away impressed. And if the beautiful facilities are a good draw, the price of admission clinches the deal. Tosu offers some of the lowest ticket prices in the league, at 1,000 yen for general admission (just 500 yen for junior high school students and younger). Even the "prestige" seats are just 3000 yen. Football fans who have the opportunity to do so should not miss the chance to watch a match this magnificent venue |
