Cerezo 1-1 Gamba |
| The first J.League Osaka Derby in three years ends in a draw! | ||
Vissel Kobe 1-2 Sanfrecce Hiroshima |
| Hiroshima - a team of players who can switch formation within seconds, get up and down the field, press, make tackles, pass well so why the ```` do they play the long ball for most of the game? Or did I see an off-day? Hey, they still won, so they won't be complaining! | ||
Gamba held at home by Chinese Wall. |
| Gamba Osaka were held to their 2nd successive ACL draw by Champions League virgins Hannan Jianye. | ||

Gamba Osaka 1-2 Nagoya Grampus |

Gamba 1-1 Antlers (Photocopy Super Cup) 3-5 on PKs |
| The season opener had its usual controversial moment ... and, as usually was not dwelled upon by the TV commentators! | ||
Honda Plays in Champions League ... CSKA Moscow 1-1 Sevilla |
CSKA Moscow were involved in a 1-1 draw 1st Leg, but Sevilla are probably confident after getting the away gaol and coming out with a draw ... about Honda, the BBC said ... "CSKA, playing their first game in the Champions League knock-out stages, included £8m signing Keisuke Honda in their starting line-up and the Japanese midfielder was behind much of their attacking intent. He fired wide from 18 yards on 31 minutes and narrowly missed the target again minutes later when he picked up a rebound from an Evengi Aldonin effort. ". |
Suwon Blue Wings 0-0 Gamba Osaka |
| Gamba gain an away point, Sanfrecce fall at home 0-1, Kawasaki fail away 0-2, and Antlers get the 1-0 win on a Koji Nakata header! Not an excellent start for Jan's teams in the ACL, but a long way to go yet! | ||
Mark sends notes on Gamba's new home??? |
This was on the NHK local news yesterday, but has since made it to the NikkanSports. (Article attached at end of this message.) Gamba's negotiations with Suita City have stalled over the City's insistence on receiving al of thel 13 billion yen pledged towards the building of a new stadium, and that the city wants said stadium to be a 'city facility'. As a result, Gamba are said to considering other options, including a site in Takatsuki, near Ibaragi station. (I wonder if this is the same site that is a temptingly vacant lot between Ibaragi and Nunobe, which would offer TWO rail options for getting to the stadium.) Interestingly, the Suita resident I work with at Minpaku (her son is a keen footy fan and her husband works at Panasonic) says that Gamba has always had a close connection with Takatsuki since it has a stronger footballing history, and a Takatsuki base would likely improve attendances. I suspect, that this 'news' is probably just a negotiating tactic, but it will be interesting to see what happens. Mark Grampalogue II |
