After they face Canada in Doha, and hopefully having already qualified for World Cup 2014 in Brazil by beating Jordan a few days later in late March, Japan will play Bulgaria, in a friendly on May 30 at Toyota Stadium, as a warmup for the Samurai Blue's final two qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup - hopefully dead rubbers by then, and, perhaps a chance for coach Alberto Zaccheroni to experiment with different players. Japan are at home to Australia on June 6 and away to Iraq on June 11 before they head for the Confederations Cup in Brazil, later in June. Japan will play Group matches against Italy and Mexico.
As noted, Japan can qualify for their fifth World Cup with a win in Jordan on March 26.
Historically, over four meetings, Japan have never beaten Bulgaria, with one draw and three losses, the most recent being a 2-1 2006 Kirin Cup defeat in Osaka.
